Flibberty Gibbet and the Green Eyes
Flibberty Gibbet was pink.
And squelchy (in a squeamy, squirmy sort of way).
And Flibberty Gibbet had a
--- very,
--- --- very,
--- --- --- very
--- --- --- --- long
--- --- --- --- --- nose.
For snorting with.
This is Flibberty Gibbet.
And this is a story about Flibberty Gibbet's green eyes, and how they got that way.
One day, Flibberty Gibbet was busy squirming in a nosquonch pool (nosquonch pools are for squirming and squeaming in, as all gibbets know) when all of a sudden, a squabble-bird swam by.
"Where are you going?" snorted Flibberty Gibbet.
"Mind your own business!" snapped the squabble-bird.
Flibberty Gibbet was sad. She wanted to go to MindYourOwnBusiness, too.
So she followed the squabble-bird.
After a while, the squabble-bird stopped to talk to a boomerang noodle.
"You've changed colour!" snapped the squabble-bird.
"Yes, I'm having an orange day this morning," said the noodle. "Anyway, it's the colour party tonight!"
Flibberty Gibbet sat on a rock. She curled her nose around her ears, and snorted quietly to herself for a bit.
Snorting is very important for gibbets. It keeps their ears full of wax.
"I've never been to a party," she snorted.
Then she got up and followed the boomerang noodle, on tippie-toes.
"ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME?!" said the boomerang noodle.
"Oh dear. Well I sort of maybe might be and I really didn't mean to but it was because... and I've never been... and it sounded like fun... and you're so orange... and what is a party anyway?" snorted Flibberty Gibbet.
The boomerang noodle scratched its head thoughtfully.
"It's a place you go when you want to have fun, and squelch a lot."
"Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! I'm squelchy! I'm squelchy!" squelched Flibberty Gibbet, jumping up and down.
"And you're very pink," said the noodle. "What colour were you yesterday?"
Flibberty Gibbet was a bit confused. "Well, pink I think."
"What about the day before that?" said the noodle.
"Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know! I've always been pink!" said Flibberty. "I like being pink!"
"Well, what about your eyes then?" said the noodle. "Wouldn't it be fun to have green eyes, to match the pink?"
"But why?" said Flibberty.
"Because changing colour is fun!" said the noodle. "It gives you a different look on life if you change your eyes to green. It gives a greenness to everything, and it's just right for a party!"
The boomerang noodle took a pair of green eyes out of its pocket.
Flibberty tried them on.
Then she looked in a mirror on a nearby mirror bush.
Flibberty Gibbet was excited. "Ooooooooh!" she snorted. "Can I go to a party now? Can I? Can I? Ooh, go on, can I?"
The boomerang took hold of the end of Flibberty Gibbet's nose.
"Follow me," it said.
Soon they arrived at the party. Everyone was having fun.
Some of them were squelching,
And some of them were snorting,
And there was even a nosquonch pool, for squirming and squeaming in!
Flibberty Gibbet was happier than she had ever been.
And the music was just marvellous! There was a whole barbaloot bif-bam band, playing in a great big marquee.
Flibberty Gibbet stayed all night.
She squelched with the squabble-bird,
And snorted with the boomerang noodle,
And squeamed and squirmed with a very nice spifferong wotchit from Splifadoo.
At the end of the night they settled themselves into the nosquonch pool, and Flibberty sighed happily as the sun rose orange behind them.
